When it comes to installing cables, there are two main principles: Cable blowing and Cable pulling.

A cable pulling machine employs either a winch or capstan, using a rope or wire to exert mechanical force and draw heavier cables through straight or slightly curved conduits. This makes it particularly well-suited for diverse environments where applying compressed air may not be feasible. The machine offers precise control over the pulling process and minimizes friction by employing cable guides along the path.

However, for the installation of fiber optic cables, a cable blowing machine becomes essential. This specialized equipment is employed to delicately propel the cables through the conduit, ensuring their passage without risk of damage.

We are providing a more detailed exploration of the blowing machine.

Cable Blowing Machine :

cable blowing machinePrinciple of Operation:

➡️Uses compressed air to propel the cable through a conduit.

➡️The cable is “blown” through the conduit, allowing it to float on a cushion of air.

Components:

➡️Air Compressor: Supplies the compressed air required for the blowing process.
➡️Blowing Head: The interface where the cable is introduced into the conduit, equipped with seals to prevent air leakage.
➡️Caterpillar Drive: A pair of belts or tracks that grip the cable and assist in pushing it through the conduit.

Applications:

➡️Ideal for long-distance installations.
➡️Commonly used for fiber optic cables, which are lightweight and sensitive to pulling stress.
➡️Suitable for environments where existing conduits are already in place.

Advantages:

➡️Reduced physical stress on the cable, minimizing the risk of damage.
➡️Efficient for installing cables over long distances with fewer intermediate access points.
➡️Can achieve high installation speeds

💡Fiber optic cable blowing machines play a crucial role in ensuring the proper installation of fiber optic cables. They help in speeding up the workflow without impacting performance.

A Case Study with modec's MT10 Air Motors

Recently, one of our esteemed clients faced a challenge in optimizing their fiber cable blowing operations. Their existing equipment faced difficulties in meeting the demands of current installations., leading to inefficiencies and delays.

Challenges Faced:

➡️Inefficient Operations: Existing equipment failed to meet the speed and torque requirements for seamless cable insertion.

➡️Downtime Concerns: Frequent breakdowns and maintenance issues led to costly downtime, impacting project timelines.

➡️Limited Versatility: The lack of versatility in their equipment restricted their ability to adapt to diverse installation scenarios.

Introducing Modec's MT10 Air Motor

In the case of our client, the air is sent into the conduit through which the fiber needs to pass, causing it to "float" and remain suspended.

Unlike standard electrical cables, fiber cannot be pulled without risking damage. The air motor propels two red caterpillars between which the fiber passes, pushing it into the conduit. Since this system relies on compressed air, using a pneumatic motor is more convenient than introducing a new energy source.
