Air motors are versatile and high-performance tools, essential in many industries. They are the ideal solution for hazardous environments (ATEX, dust, humidity), confined spaces, portable applications, and autonomous systems. They are also perfect for frequent start/stop cycles and applications requiring precision and low speed.

In some applications, positioning accuracy and/or a reduced rotation speed are essential. For example, when operating valves, opening or closing them too quickly can damage the pipes. Similarly, in lifting operations, handling heavy loads requires slow and controlled movements to ensure safety and avoid any incidents.

Despite these many advantages, air motors are often associated with high rotation speeds, which can be a problem for some applications requiring slow and precise movements.

How to adapt high-speed air motors to applications requiring very slow rotation?

Modec has developed unique expertise in the design of torque limiters adapted to a wide variety of needs. Our experience extends to complex projects, such as that of a client in the nuclear industry requiring a very low-speed air motor (1 rpm). To meet this demand, we integrated a compact torque limiter directly into the motor, thus allowing torque control without resorting to a bulky reducer.

Building on this success, we have designed a complete range of torque limiters adaptable to many configurations. Two basic prototypes are available:

➡️Torque limiter integrated into the motor: Compact and lightweight, ideal for confined spaces.

➡️Torque limiter in a separate module: Suitable for applications where space is not a limiting factor.

One of the advantages of modec torque limiters is that you can either set the motor to disengage once the maximum or selected torque limit is reached, or choose to receive a signal indicating that the limit has been reached, giving you the ability to stop the motor or perform any other action.

Varied applications in many sectors

Our low-speed air motors equipped with torque limiters have already proven their worth in various sectors:

🔷 Aeronautics: for the operation of slow conveyors.
🔷 Chemistry: where our solutions meet the specific requirements of this sector.
🔷 Water sector: for the efficient management of water infrastructure.

We have clients who use our low-speed motors in the French valve manufacturing industry and in the aeronautics industry (for slow conveyors), in chemical refineries in China, as well as in a large water supply company in France.

Since each company has different requirements, we prefer to work with our clients individually to design and custom-build a low-speed air motor that meets their specific needs.
