Portable Valve Actuators Blog

Why you should always use a torque retention system with a portable valve actuator?

Our portable valve actuators are a simple, reliable solution for opening and closing manual valves. They save you time and can open valves that require a high torque, while at the same time protecting the safety of your operators and equipment.

To guarantee this level of safety, it’s important to always use a torque retention system adapted to the situation and environment. Portable actuators can exert a torque capable of reaching 860Nm. A force this great, if applied to an operator, could be very dangerous. To minimise this danger, we have developed a range of torque retention systems, plus other options such as the torque limiter, so that you can always be sure of working in the best safety conditions.

Our portable actuators are powerful tools that assist with actuating valves – they can exert a very high torque if necessary in order to unblock or open difficult valves. Water pipe operators are well aware of this – at the start and end of use in particular, the torque is much greater and can give off powerful jolts. Our tool is indispensable for operators as it helps them to improve everyday work performance whilelimiting the risks they face – risk of injury, risk of professional illness, risk of damaging equipment…

Safety is a key issue for us, which is why we stress the need to use a torque retention system with our portable actuators in order to protect your operators. We have designed and developed various types of torque retention equipment to cater for the maximum of requirements. If, however, none of our standard solutions is suitable for your specific situation or need, we are very happy to work with your design office to develop a torque retention and flange that works for you!

Have a look at this video to see how to use our portable valve actuators !

Torque reaction management system

SINGLE & DOUBLE REACTION ARMS (up to 900 Nm)

Our actuators are supplied with a torque reaction arm which enables the torque to be controlled by a strap attached to the end of the bar and to a fixed point in the working environment. In this way, the operator is not exposed to the torque reaction, in particular at the end of the process.

ARTICULATED REACTION ARM FIXED TO VEHICLE TRAILER HATCH (up to 900 Nm)

This telescopic metal bar can be easily positioned between a vehicle’s trailer hatch and the actuator.
Ideal for valves buried beneath roads, or for any valve which has an upward facing handwheel.

FOOT HELD ARTICULATED REACTION ARM (up to 350 Nm)

You don’t need to attach this torque reaction system to anything – By simply standing on the reaction arm, the operator doesn’t need to carry the torque reaction with his arms, his own weight does the job !

STAND FOR UNDERGROUND / BURIED VALVES (up to 350 Nm)

Designed for underground water distribution system valves, this stand makes the actuator easy and safe to use with a telescopic «Tee-key». Light and pliable, it’s simple to transport with the two wheels, takes up minimal space and can be erected in a couple of minutes using just a few knurled screws.

Once in place, the stand – not the operator – bears the load of both the torque and the weight of the actuator.

It’s the perfect tool for water distribution system operators.

TELESCOPIC BIPOD (up to 350 Nm)

The bipod is light, small, easy to use and practical. It’s adapted for use in a wide variety of situations.

With its two telescopic legs and a flange that can be placed in any position, it redirects the torque without any difficulty into the ground, a wall or any other fixed point.
